You will meet your guide in the center of the Village and dive into the story of this first neighborhood to form outside of Lower Manhattan in the early 1800s. From there, you’ll make your way to Washington Square Park, the iconic location of numerous protest movements and artistic displays. It is now a vibrant center of the NYU campus. Making your way down MacDougal, you’ll experience a time capsule of the early Bohemia and Beatnik countercultures. See the spots where Bob Dylan, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsburg, Joan Rivers, Earnest Hemingway, and many others started and created their careers. Heading into the West Village, you’ll visit sites where revolutions took place. At the Stonewall Inn, you’ll see the exact spot where the gay rights movement galvanized in the late 1960s. And around the corner you’ll see where Cafe Society once caused a revolution in integration and political performance. Finally, you will explore the residential area of the West Village and see some of the beautiful architecture of the neighborhood. This includes the famed Friends house from the legendary sitcom. Your experience concludes at a spot of rebellion with the Hess Triangle at the corner of 7th Avenue and Christopher Street.
